| County Council needs to improve fast |
|
Conservative controlled Surrey County Council has been slated in a report by its interim Chief Executive. He found that Council bosses were "superior and arrogant" and had "an obsession with bureaucracy". "This is a whole system failure," he said. "Many of the problems that need fixing are organisation-wide." The report has been covered in several papers, including the London Evening Standard . Newly elected Liberal Democrat County Councillor John Orrick, who won the Caterham Hill seat from the Conservatives in June, says: "This is a damning report which highlights the deterioration in the County Council's attitudes and performance over a number of years. The Council has lost its way and forgotten that it is there to serve the public."John adds: "In the Surrey CC Lib Dem Group, we shall push for widespread changes in the way services are delivered and in the quality of communication between Council bosses and staff, individual Councillors, residents and businesses. As an example, I want to see a much speedier system for officers to respond on issues affecting road safety and highway quality." Read the full report here. |
